If NLP is so good why are 4 out of 5 NLP Trainers NOT making a living selling courses?
I’ve said it … and it’s on the web so there is no taking it back … !
I’ve been using and developing my NLP skills and knowledge for more than 10 years now and it still surprises me that there are only a handful of NLP Trainers that make a living from selling courses. Most subsidise their income with second jobs and some form of private coaching or therapy based business. So why is that?
If you are an NLP Trainer reading this post then I urge you to continue reading, because it’s easy to fix.
When people decide to get into NLP , more specifically as a trainer, the first experience is usually in a room full of 30 plus delegates , all paying a couple of thousand £’s each to attend. So first impressions are that the trainer must be doing well. And if the trainer has been on the circuit for a while this is probably true… however the market is saturated for generic practitioner training suppliers, people currently have smaller budgets, and it takes a good 6months to fill a higher cost/value training.
There are three main reasons for those trainers that are struggling:
- Established ‘Names’ in the market get most of the business for their niche
- New Trainers are peddling what they have been taught rather than identifying their own brand & niche
- Most trainers do not have a signature product
Let’s test this out …
open up a web browser and get the google search up …
Type in “nlp training courses” then try “nlp” .. what you will see is the same sponsored links at the top, and the long established training companies showing in the top 10.
Now these are not neccersarily the top companies. The NLP Business Elite have been around for 8-10years plus and have a database of clients in the 1000’s. They rely heavily on referal marketing and have their own signature products.
So how do you compete? You dont….
Fortunately marketing is changing thanks to new media and social networks, thankfully creating your own product is getting easier thanks to new technology.. BUT there is a BUT!
NLP Trainers need to go back to basics and discover what they are really selling, put another spin on it AND have their own product to market.
Products can be eBooks, Physical Books, Audio Programs, DVD tutorials, specialist services, Membership sites to name a few..

- What do you know about a subject you love
- When were you most successful at overcoming a problem in doing something that you loved
- What was the problem you previously had
- Who Else Has this Problem and would pay to have it gone
- Where do you find these people
- How do you create a service or product that overcomes the problem
What if you could have your own product that differentiates you from the other generic trainers our there? What if you could do this in a little as 3days and no more than 6months? What if you can have a product in 24hrs or less!!!
